Fasciation

Have you ever heard of fasciation? I hadn’t until last summer when a strange group of black-eyed susans appeared in my mother’s garden. She was quite perturbed. I was less so, maybe recognizing in it a kindred spirit. Sometimes we just look different.

I have launched the fundraiser for my next project today and with it comes all of the jitters. Do people want to hear about this? Why am I asking for so much money? What if this is a bad idea and I’m out of my mind?

I actually have the answers to these questions. Yes, some will want to hear about. I am asking for this much money because it’s how much it costs to make a record these days. This could be a bad idea, and I could be out of my mind (especially in this heat), but I’d much rather be here than too scared to do what I feel is the right thing to do.

Which is why I’m here, contemplating the fasciated plant. Some people will cut it down, weirded out. Others will find it a special gift. I have no way of knowing what lies ahead here, but every once in a while an idea comes into your garden, and it doesn’t quit. It moves you and inspires you and excites you.

I’m excited to see what is next.
