Mistakes on Stage

I had a little concert last month to help support Documentary Songwriters, a non-profit I'm passionate about. The concert was full of mistakes! Silly ones, too.

I was talking to my friend Lindsay about it recently and she reminded me that none of us [musicians] have been performing regularly. Performance is its own skill set, and I’ll admit I’m out of practice. While mistakes might be inevitable for many of us, how we handle them can decide the whole vibe of the show.

There's a quote that says "you show people how to treat you." I think that can go for your audience, too. When you make a mistake, you can use it as an opportunity to remind them that you're human. So are they. Laugh it off. Keep going, and put on a great show.
