Creativity Exercise #2: Write Your Future Self a letter
Can I be honest? I forgot all about this blog and my plans for Creativity School. I have SO many ideas and I have a hard time settling on one or two and putting them into practice. Last week I taught my students and slogged through the week, subsisting on sugar and trashy novels. Last week the weight of what we are all enduring felt heavy and I wanted to hide.
If you know what I’m talking about and feel what I’m feeling, you might like this next exercise.
Write a letter to your future 2021 self. Tell them about what’s currently happening, how you feel, and what you hope can change. Letters aren’t just about telling. We have to ask some questions, too. Where are you? Are you in the same job? Are you healthy? Are you stable? Are you still touching your face?
Once you’re finished, find a safe spot for your letter. If you’re like me, “safe spot” is code for lost forever…which is why the next step is very important: Go to your personal calendar and flip through to this day in 2021. Add a calendar reminder to yourself to dig up your letter. In the notes field, write down where you put it.
This one helped me out quite a bit.
